About Me
Hi, I’m Kat Dyer. I work in multiple mediums using nature, and my personal experiences in it as my inspiration. My life has been a rich tapestry of experiences that informs my work. After graduating with a Bachelors of Fine Art in Painting, I went on to have a career with the U.S. National Park Service. I worked with animals, plants, and people in several parks such as: Arches National Park, Zion National Park, Everglades National Park, Big Thicket National Recreation Area, Bandelier National Monument, Padre Island National Seashore, and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (where I spent the most time). I also worked for several universities and environmental consulting firms on projects that ranged from compliance monitoring to soil ecology. I have a deep understanding of the complexities of the natural world in a large swath of the United States, but am especially fond of the southwestern United States.
My latest works are part of a series named “Electric Desert”, which you can find in my portfolio section. They are an exploration of my past experiences in the southwest. In it, I create familiar landscapes with a dreamlike quality, highlighting the complex, many layered meanings of each piece. Lately I have been using a traditional collage approach while using digital tools instead of scissors and glue.
Love and Light,
Kat
