Golden Hour
A southwestern monsoon storm looms above the desert, lit in gold from the setting sun. Beneath it, the desert is already falling into shadow, but still glowing from the last reflected light. Iconic saguaros punctuate the landscape and take center stage, as a bobcat in purple and orange wanders below. To me, golden hour before a monsoon storm in the Sonoran Desert is one of the most special moments a person can experience. Everyone is readying for the approaching storm, while also a change of guard so to speak takes place. The sounds of Gamble's Quail fill the air as they call to each other to roost, while the sounds of night and evening dwelling creatures call to each other to wake up. The intense heat of the day is gone, but there is a feeling of energy across the landscape alive with plants and animals greeting the evening and coming rains.
